NBA Admits Mistake in Magic-Suns Double OT Game

The Phoenix Suns took down the Orlando Magic in their double-overtime game at the Mortgage Matchup Center in Arizona on Saturday.

Jalen Green was sensational in the game, with his buzzer-beater with 1.1 seconds left giving the Suns the 113-110 win. He finished with 16 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals.

Grayson Allen led the Suns in scoring with 27 points, along with seven rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block.

The Suns were without Devin Booker, who is sidelined for at least a week due to a hip issue. Dillon Brooks, the team's second-leading scorer this season, also played just seven minutes in the contest after suffering a hand injury.

The Magic fought well, with Desmond Bane and Paolo Banchero combining for 60 points. No other player scored more than 20 points for Orlando, though, with Jevon Carter adding 15 as the team's third-best scorer in the game.

While it was a close game and the Suns needed Green's heroics to win, the Magic might have benefitted from an officiating error.

With 33.9 seconds left in the second overtime, Anthony Black was inbounding the ball. He almost lost it after Green deflected his pass to Jonathan Isaac, although the Magic guard was able to recover it.

Black then passed it to Isaac again, who proceeded to attack the basket for a dunk. Isaac missed but was fouled, getting two free throws instead.

However, according to the NBA's Last 2 Minute Report, Black should have been called for a five-second violation on his inbound play. The NBA ruled it an incorrect non-call.

"Black (ORL) fails to inbound the ball within five seconds," the NBA commented.

It would have resulted in a turnover and the Suns' possession. Considering the time remaining and the fact that Phoenix was up by three at that point, 110-107, they could have let the clock run down before making a play. That would have put a lot of pressure on Orlando in the closing seconds, even if the Suns weren't able to score.

While Isaac failed to make any of his free throws and the Suns turned the ball over in the next possession, the Magic were able to tie things up with a Carter triple.

Fortunately for the Suns, Green was there to save the day. However, Phoenix could have probably avoided such a nerve-racking ending had it not been for the officiating mistake.

The Suns improved to 33-24 on the season with the win, while the Magic dropped to 29-26.
