NBA All-Star takes himself off free-agent market with new extension

One of the top expected options in 2025 NBA free agency will no longer be on the market.

Shams Charania of ESPN reported on Tuesday that new Toronto Raptors forward Brandon Ingram has agreed to a multiyear contract extension with the team.

Ingram has agreed to a new three-year, $120 million with the team that includes a player option for 2027-28, Charania adds.

Ingram, the 27-year-old former All-Star, was just acquired by the Raptors in a trade with the New Orleans Pelicans prior to the Feb. 6 deadline. He is averaging 22.2 points, 5.6 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game this season for New Orleans but has yet to make his Toronto debut due to an ankle injury.

The Raptors are in a bit of confusing situation right now, taking a big swing on Ingram despite being a rebuilding team at 16-37 this year (a lowly 13th in the Eastern Conference). But they apparently think that the 6-foot-8 Ingram can be a cornerstone with them along with 23-year-old Scottie Barnes (who is signed through 2029), 25-year-old Immanuel Quickley (signed through 2028), and 24-year-old RJ Barrett (signed through 2027).

As for Ingram himself, he is making $38.1 million this season in the final year of his current contract but has now secured some longer-term financial security as well as a slight pay raise on an extension with an average annual value of $40 million. That is a good deal for Ingram, who recently switched to a very prominent agent as well.
