Cleveland Cavaliers star James Harden continues his strong 17th season in the NBA. Although he's a seasoned veteran, Harden has started a new chapter with the Cavaliers this 2025-26 season. Ahead of the trade deadline, the former league MVP was traded by the Los Angeles Clippers for star guard Darius Garland.
Since then, he has played 10 games for the Cavaliers. On Monday, he appeared in his 11th contest for his new team, as they faced the Philadelphia 76ers. Before the game started, Harden had 28,996 career points. After scoring four points, however, the 11-time All-Star reached a new career milestone with his scoring.
Harden now has 29,000 points, pushing him closer to the 30,000 mark. Additionally, the star guard was recognized by the league for becoming the ninth player to reach the feat. The NBA posted his career achievement on X.
"Congrats to @JHarden13 of the @cavs for becoming the 9th player in NBA history to reach 29,000 career points!" the NBA posted.

The next scoring goal for Harden is to join his former teammate and close friend, Kevin Durant, at the 30,000 club. The Cavaliers also recognized his hard work. On Instagram, the organization posted about his scoring goal and also announced that he has joined Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James in the history books.
They are the only two players to have at least 29,000 points and 8,000 assists in league history. Both stars are lethal scorers and can get their teammates involved with their passing. James is the league's leader in all-time points, while Harden has won the Scoring Title three times when he was with the Houston Rockets.
"James becomes the ninth player in @nba history to reach this milestone and is the second with at least 29,000 points and 8,000 assists," the team posted.
In the first 10 games he played with the Cavaliers, the star guard has given the team a scoring boost. He's averaged 19.1 points on 45.7% shooting. Additionally, his ability to get his teammates involved has helped the team. He's averaged 8.1 assists before their matchup against the 76ers.
At 36 years old, Harden has not shown signs of slowing down. He's still one of the best scoring backcourt stars. Among all backcourt players, he's 20th in the league in scoring, averaging 24.2 points for the Clippers and Cavaliers this season.
