Anthony Edwards has been making his case as the future face of the NBA, and the numbers back it up. His fourth All-Star selection this season came with an MVP performance, representing Team Stars against USA Stripes and Team World, a moment that reminded everyone why belief in him has never wavered.
Six seasons into his career with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Edwards is averaging 24.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.1 assists across 430 regular-season games. This season he's taken it up another level, 29.6 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists, cementing himself as the most reliable player on Minnesota's roster.
But for all the highlight plays and big nights, one habit has followed him throughout his career.
Edwards has a history with the NBA's finance department. He has been fined $35,000 for flipping off a fan, $50,000 for doing the same to a game official, $75,000 for publicly criticizing refs using profane language and $25,000 for a postgame interview that went too far.
Add another one to that list. After dropping 34 points against the Portland Trail Blazers on Feb. 24, Edwards was hit with a $25,000 fine for throwing the game ball with force into the spectator stands.
NBA Communications reported the decision, as announced by NBA Executive Vice President and Head of Basketball Operations James Jones.
The incident happened at halftime of the Minnesota Timberwolves' 124-121 victory at Moda Center.
Edwards rebounded the final shot of the half, then launched the ball well down the court past the buzzer and into the stands.
