Kevin Durant was the second overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft by the Seattle Supersonics. He played his rookie in Seattle, Washington, but after the 2007-2008 NBA season, the Supersonics moved from Seattle to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. That franchise then became the Oklahoma City Thunder, and they have been one of the best ran franchises in the NBA.

Durant has also played for the Golden State Warriors, the Brooklyn Nets, and the Houston Rockets. He is trying to win an NBA championship with Houston over the next couple of years. On his current contract, he will be back with the Rockets for the 2026-2027 NBA season and has a player-option for the 2027-2028 NBA season, but it would not be a surprise to see him back in Houston then.

Things could get interesting in the summer of 2028. Durant will become a free agent. There is a chance that Seattle could be back in the NBA as a potential expansion team for the 2028-2029 NBA season. What are the odds he would win up back with the Supersonics where his career all began?

Durant is 37 years old and he has accomplished a lot in his NBA career. Durant is one of the best scorers the league has ever seen, and he also won two NBA Finals MVPs with Golden State. Durant was also an MVP during his time with Oklahoma City as well.

There is a chance that he could retire within the next five years from the NBA. After his contract expires with Houston in 2027-2028, many wonder what his next destination will be.

Well, Shams Charania of ESPN said on his Twitter page on Monday, "Just in: The NBA will hold a vote at the Board of Governors meetings March 24-25 to explore adding expansion teams exclusively in Las Vegas and Seattle, with the two franchises targeted for the 2028-29 season, sources tell ESPN. There is momentum for stakeholders to approve surveying what industry executives project will be bids in the $7-to-$10 billion range for each team." If this does get approved, Seattle would be back in 2028-2029.

There are a lot of people who think that Durant could potentially go back to the Supersonics when he becomes a free agent. Would this be his retirement tour? If he did go back to Seattle, there is no doubt that it would sell out tickets. Even though Durant would be 40 years old by the time the 2028-2029 NBA season would roll around, there would be fans willing to go see him play in person.

Durant is a future hall of famer. With that being said, with this news of Seattle potentially coming back into the NBA, many are wondering if it is in mind that Durant may finish his career with the Supersonics before he retires.
