NBA Draft prospect Alex Sarr is set to face one of the toughest tests of his young career next week with a matchup against the G League Ignite. And even more, he’ll be under the microscope more than ever, as the game will be teeming with 2024 potential.

The younger brother of OKC Thunder two-way center Olivier Sarr, Alex spent one season in the Overtime Elite last season before ultimately deciding to go the way of the NBL. Now, he’ll look to carve out a strong draft case with Perth as a projected lottery pick by some experts, with potential to go even higher.

At 7-foot-1, Sarr packs some traditional-style center attributes, with a more modern game that pushes its way to the surface more than not.

With the YNG Dreamerz in the OTE last season, he averaged 11.1 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.1 blocks and 0.9 steals in around 25 minutes per game.

Offensively, he can play both the four and the five effectively, utilizing his above-average mobility to position himself well in the paint and in transition. Most importantly to his offensive potential, he has no qualms in putting the ball on the floor —again utilizing his decent advance handle for a center — or even pulling up from beyond the arc.

Defensively, he showcased skills similar to that of shot-blocker’s past, albeit in an unrefined way. And his mobility allows him to play keen drop coverage and swipe lanes for steals, too.

All-in-all, Sarr currently has the chops to become a top draftee. But is oozing with potential that could push him as high as the top five of the 2024 draft by the time it’s all said and done.

Even still, with Ignite forwards Ron Holland and Matas Buzelis on the court in their matchup next week, Sarr will have to do plenty to stand out.

Tipoff between the Ignite and Perth is at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 6 and Friday, Sept. 8 from the Dollar Loan Center in Henderson, Nevada.
