NBA Draft pick made great update to his LinkedIn profile

Former Maryland center Derik Queen was taken 13th overall in the NBA Draft on Wednesday night, and he wasted no time updating his resume.

The Atlanta Hawks drafted Queen with the No. 13 overall pick. They then traded his rights to the New Orleans Pelicans in exchange for the No. 23 overall pick and an unprotected first-round pick in 2026.

Shortly after the first round of the NBA Draft was completed, Queen shared his big career news on LinkedIn. He created a post informing his connections that he has started a position as a professional basketball player with the Pelicans.

LinkedIn is an employment-focused social media platform where users can apply for jobs, post jobs and network. It is rare to see a professional athlete update their profile as if they just landed a job as an account executive at a bank branch, but Queen did exactly that.

Queen is not the first NBA player to keep an updated LinkedIn profile. We saw one journeyman who has played for several different teams do the same last year, and his employment history section was pretty surreal.

Queen, who is listed at 6-foot-10 and 246 pounds, averaged 16.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per game at Maryland last season. He also provided some clutch moments during the NCAA Tournament. We wish him the best of luck in his new position.
