Giannis Antetokounmpo? Kevin Durant? To be traded this offseason? Well, this is the NBA, and all is possible.
That much we already know. So if the Milwaukee Bucks do trade Antetokounmpo (unlikely, we hear), or the Phoenix Suns trade Durant (more likely), the moves are expected to occur around the NBA Draft at the end of June. This is all per respected ESPN insider Brian Windhorst.
“This is all basically gonna be through the trade market,” Windhorst said on Get Up. “First up will be Giannis, whether or not he leaves Milwaukee, that will be a big thing. And I really do think Kevin Durant has to wait for Giannis, because there’s going to be so many teams that are interested in both.”
There could also be some names we’re not even talking about on the move.
“Two years ago, the biggest and most impactful trade that happened was Jrue Holiday going to Boston,” Windhorst said. “We didn’t know that was possibly going to happen until Damian Lillard got traded to Milwaukee. So what I think we’re going to see is a number of teams aggressively either upgrade their rosters or offload money, and a series of ripple effects from what could be a Giannis trade, or a KD trade.”
Again, if any of this stuff does take place, it’s more likely to take place ahead of free agency the week after the draft, Windhorst suggested.
“You could have a number of teams reacting to (possible trades), with star players becoming available,” he said. “Shams Charania and I have talked about this. We’re potentially gonna see the most impactful week of the offseason during draft week, not necessarily free agent week, because the action is going to happen around the draft and the picks.”
