NBA legend and 2025 Hall of Fame finalist Dwight Howard is convinced about Mac McClung's status as a dunker.
McClung dominated the Slam Dunk Contest once again on NBA All-Star Saturday, scoring 50 in each of his four dunk attempts en route to his three-peat win. The Orlando Magic guard became the first player ever to become the dunk champion for three straight years, cementing himself as one of the greatest to ever participate in the competition.
McClung's dunks in the 2025 iteration of the event were all pretty memorable, though his first one, where he jumped over a car, really stood out. For his final dunk, the 26-year-old leapt over Cleveland Cavaliers All-Star Evan Mobley, hit the front of the rim with the ball, before throwing it down with force.
As the whole hoops world talked about McClung's performance, Howard also chimed in and dropped a strong opinion about the now three-time dunk contest champion.
According to Howard, who also won the Slam Dunk Contest back in 2008, there's no denying now that McClung is the greatest to ever do it in the annual competition.
"MMC IS the GOAT dunk contest dunker," Howard wrote on X.
Considering the reaction that the 2025 Dunk Contest has gotten and how people are saying that McClung has revived it just when many are losing interest, a case can certainly be made about his Dunk Contest GOAT status. Not to mention, he has the credentials to back the claim.
