Friday's game between the Brooklyn Nets and the Philadelphia 76ers at Wells Fargo Center saw Ben Simmons return to his old stomping grounds. Simmons unsurprisingly didn't receive a very pleasant welcome from the home crowd but managed to put a big smile on their faces by missing a wide-open layup in the second quarter.

You can hear how happy the crowd was to see Simmons miss it. NBA fans on X roasted the big man over this.
"Even my grandma could make that shot," one fan believes their old grandmother would have made that shot.
"How is he still in the league?" One fan can't understand how Simmons is still in the NBA.
"He’ll be playing in Australia professionally next season," one fan thinks Simmons won't be in the league after this season.
"Sucks > get injured > promises to come back healthier than ever > make an offseason highlights video to trick everyone > repeat," one fan ruthlessly called out Simmons.
"Nah bro like this is BAD…. You shouldn’t be able to miss like that even if you wanted to It's hard to watch," one fan was concerned for Simmons.
That was such a terrible miss. Ian Eagle was calling the game and initially thought Simmons' shot had been blocked. I don't blame Eagle for thinking that, as you wouldn't expect an NBA player to miss from there. The fact that the Australian wasn't even touched when he went up and still failed to put it in, is a terrible look.
As for how the rest of the game went for Simmons, there weren't too many positives. The 28-year-old put up just two points, four rebounds, four assists, and one block against the 76ers, and was 1-4 from the field.
Simmons' ineffectiveness played a part in the 76ers blowing out the Nets 113-98 in this NBA Cup game. He is now 1-4 against his former team and has averaged just 5.8 points per game in those meetings.
Simmons has turned into a walking lowlight reel at this point. In a game against the Milwaukee Bucks earlier this season on Oct. 27, Simmons went viral for being too scared to attempt a layup.
The Nets broadcast team was very critical of Simmons over this play and rightly so. There is no excuse for his being so passive on the court. Then, earlier this month on Nov. 15, Simmons was clowned for going 0-10 during warmups before a game against the New York Knicks.
It's just sad to see how bad it's gotten for Simmons. He is a three-time All-Star who has made an All-NBA team and two All-Defensive teams but is now a shell of his former self.
Simmons is averaging just 5.4 points, 5.9 rebounds, 6.6 assists, 0.8 steals, and 0.6 blocks per game for the Nets in 2024-25. He is in the final year of a five-year, $177.2 million deal and as things stand, I doubt any team is going to try to sign him when he hits free agency in 2025.
Simmons still has time to change things around, of course, as we are just a month into the season. His next opportunity to do so will come when the 6-10 Nets take on the Sacramento Kings at Golden One Center on Sunday at 9 PM ET.
