The New York Knicks are looking to add a lethal scorer in the NBA free agency market. According to reports on Monday, the Utah Jazz are finalizing a contract buyout with veteran guard Jordan Clarkson. Once he clears waivers, reports indicated that New York will be his next destination. Clarkson will reportedly sign a team-friendly contract, which will be a great deal for the organization.

Last season, the Knicks didn’t have anyone else scoring aside from the starting lineup of Jalen Brunson, Mikal Bridges, Josh Hart, OG Anunoby and Karl-Anthony Towns. Their bench didn’t provide a scoring punch, which proved to be a problem, especially in the playoffs.

The highest scorer off the bench was Miles McBride, who averaged 9.5 points on 40.6 percent from the field. This was followed by Cameron Payne, who put up 6.9 points in 15.1 minutes per game.

Clarkson will be a significant addition to the New York Knicks. He’s one of the best scorers off the bench, and the organization will reportedly sign him on a veteran minimum contract. New York Post’s Stefan Bondy reported on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday.

“Assuming he clears waivers and deal is finalized, the Knicks would be getting Jordan Clarkson for the vet’s minimum, a source told The Post,” the insider posted.

Last season, Clarkson averaged one of his lowest numbers since joining the Jazz. He put up 16.2 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists on 40.8 percent shooting from the field. The Filipino-American guard was limited to 37 games as he underwent a medical procedure to address plantar fasciitis in his left foot.

The former second-round pick of the 2014 draft class has scored the most points off the bench since 2020. Clarkson amassed 4,589 points, while Malik Monk (3,882 points) and Bobby Portis (3,594 points) trail him on the list.

The New York Knicks believe they have a team that could contend for a championship. Because three All-Star players—Jayson Tatum, Damian Lillard, and Tyrese Haliburton—will miss the whole 2025–26 season due to unlucky Achilles tears, the Eastern Conference is open the next season. The team wants to seize the moment with its group.
