NBA Friday best bets: Rockets and Heat highlight Wiesguy's two picks and a prop

NBA teams are down to just their last couple of games and the play-in tournament seems to be achieving its objectives as teams continue to play hard and jockey for position.

I missed you yesterday and am sad to report a 1-2 day from Wednesday. We had the "right" side with Memphis, but the game went into overtime and they lost the cover in the extra session. The Lakers disappointed, but LeBron did not. His 33 points made for an easy over.

We have 11 games on the Friday schedule to choose from. Though I am also thinking about quitting while I am ahead. Where would the fun in that be though?

NBA Picks for Friday, April 7
Houston Rockets -4.5 (at Charlotte Hornets)

The Rockets have only won 6 times on the road all season yet they are favored in this one. They are 1-1 SUATS in this role and I like them tonight against a very limited Charlotte team. I am not a big fan of the Rockets long-term, but they have their preferred lineup available and with the new lottery rules there is no reason to be shy about an extra win or two. After a small surge, the Hornets have not looked good lately and are so banged up. Take the Rockets with confidence.

Miami Heat -6.5 (at Washington Wizards) The Heat are still fighting for that coveted 6th spot in the Eastern Conference. Meanwhile, Washington has sunk out of contention and will be missing all 3 of its 20+ppg scorers in this one. Miami is never a team I want to rely on to cover margin, but this looks like a game they could win handily. Look for a low-scoring tilt with the Heat in full control tonight. It won't be pretty but it will keep the heat on the Nets.

NBA Prop

Kevin Porter Jr. Over 24.5 Points and Assists There is no reason for Porter to be shy tonight. He has scored at least 20 points in the last 5 games and bested this total in 4 of those. Charlotte is not going to put up much of a fight and this is going to feel more like Summer League than an intense NBA game. The backcourt for the Rockets sets the pace for them each night.
