When scanning the NBA board Friday night, one game in particular seems to offer us significant betting value, that being the Houston Rockets and San Antonio Spurs.
There's a few reasons to trust that points are coming in this game, the least of which is an over/under set at 236.5 points, the highest of the night.
That total is set as so for good reason. If you simply take a look at these two teams previous meetings, you see a lack of defensive resistance.
The first game between these teams on Jan. 12 finished with 252 total points. They met again on Jan. 25, totaling 238 points.
When looking at pace of play, we have two teams that play fast. Houston ranks third in the NBA and San Antonio ranks sixth.
Beyond those trends, there's something in particular that put this game over the edge for me.
The Spurs are averaging the second-most points in the paint in the league, and the Rockets aren't far behind, scoring the fifth-most points inside.
While that's nice, this game suggests plenty of points are coming, as neither defense has shown an ability to slow down inside scoring.
Houston is allowing the second-most points per game in the paint, and the Spurs rank third in the same metric.
That tells me there's going to be plenty of scoring opportunities for both teams tonight.
Off the above information, there's multiple angles you could take to attack this game. We're still waiting for word on Dejounte Murray on San Antonio, which has delayed Spurs props.
You could be aggressive with the normal over and take a few players to score 20 or 25+ points at crazy odds.
For now, there's a three-leg SGP on FanDuel, which focuses on two Rockets players and a teased down over.
We start with Jalen Green to finish with four or more rebounds, a number he's hit in four straight and eight of his last 10 games.
In the two previous games against San Antonio, Green finished with eight and four boards.
Given the fast-paced nature of this Friday tonight, there should be a plethora of shots. While we're banking on those shots leading to points, there's also sure to be plenty of misses.
That's where Green comes in, and with the Spurs allowing the fifth-most rebounds per game, the opportunity should be there.
San Antonio has been extremely generous to the SG position of late in terms of rebounding.
Jimmy Butler and Tyler Herro had seven and five rebounds, respectively last game against this team, and even Duncan Robinson chipped in three.
Three shooting guards on the Warriors finished with more than four rebounds against the Spurs on Tuesday, and Devin Booker and Zach Lavine each registered four rebounds in the two games prior.
The second leg brings in fellow Rockets guard Kevin Porter to score 15+ points. His current over/under is set at 15.5, so feel free to take that, but at the risk of getting hooked, I'll slide this down to 15+.
Recent production suggests Porter should reach this total. He's scored 15+ in eight straight games, and in two games against the Spurs, Porter has 18 and 16 points.
The expected points in the paint that we referenced earlier may also go in Porter's favor. The guard leads the Rockets in drives per game, according to NBA.com, with 9.5 per game. Against a team struggling to slow down interior scoring, Porter should have his chances.
The standard over here is a fine bet in my book, considering their two games have averaged 245 total points. For a bit of insurance, I've picked an alternate over eight points lower than where the books have it listed.
That will my wrap my three legs for this game! I think there's plenty of angles to take in this one, and if you have patience to put in bets until injury statuses are known, consider adding a few Spurs players to this ticket.
If Dejounte Murray is active, he's averaging the fourth-most drives per game in the NBA, at 17.9, and averaging 19.6 points per game. He's in a good position to take advantage of the soft paint defense. In the two games against Houston, Murray scored 32 and 19 points.
Jakob Poeltl is another to monitor, ranking seventh in the NBA in paint touches per game (10.1). He scored 18 and 13 in the two previous meetings between these two teams, averaging 10.5 rebounds. Consider Poeltl for a double-double when San Antonio's props open.
Good luck Friday night!
