Growing concern surrounding Lonzo Ball’s medical outlook has intensified doubts about his NBA future.
Lonzo Ball began the campaign with the Cleveland Cavaliers, appearing in 35 games before being traded to the Utah Jazz.
Utah quickly waived him, and despite medical evaluations by teams including the Golden State Warriors and Denver Nuggets, he has yet to secure another contract.
Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints reported that league personnel hold serious reservations regarding Lonzo Ball’s medical history.
Those concerns have escalated following multiple knee surgeries that sidelined him for nearly three years.
“There are concerns among many league personnel that the former second-overall pick may not play again over concerns with his medical records.”
“Nothing is imminent on this front, and Ball will continue to work on strengthening his game and health as he waits for another opportunity.”
“Should he remain unsigned through the remainder of this season and want to continue his playing career, Lonzo may be forced to do so overseas.”
Lonzo Ball, 28, has played only 105 games since 2021. His limited availability has significantly impacted the level of interest he has received in free agency.
Across 35 games with Cleveland this season, Lonzo Ball averaged 4.6 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.9 assists while shooting 30.1% from the field and 27.2% from beyond the arc.
Selected second overall by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2017 NBA Draft, Lonzo Ball once averaged 7.2 assists per game as a rookie and established himself as a capable perimeter defender.
Recurring knee problems have since altered that trajectory and now place his long-term NBA prospects in doubt.
Without a contract and with medical evaluations guiding team decisions, Lonzo Ball’s future may hinge on demonstrating sustained health. At present, his path back to the NBA remains unclear.
