NBA insider reveals important Jalen Brunson injury update

The New York Knicks are going to enter the 2026-27 season as the reigning NBA champions for the first time since 1973.

However, there were some concerns and questions about star guard and NBA Finals MVP Jalen Brunson.

After the NBA Finals came to an end, Brunson had surgery on his left wrist, and he was expected to resume activities sometime in the latter part of the summer.

On Friday, ESPN's NBA insider Vince Goodwill revealed an important update on Brunson's status.

"[Jalen Brunson's] at about 80 to 85% after the wrist surgery that he had in July," Goodwill said during an episode of "NBA Today." He'll have no restrictions when training camp begins in a couple of weeks."

Goodwill concluded by saying Brunson "should be and will be" ready when the Knicks begin training camp on Sept. 28, so that's a huge boost for this team.

Brunson had a dominant postseason run, which also included him winning the Eastern Conference Finals MVP as well as the unanimous NBA Finals MVP award.

Brunson averaged 26 points per game with 6.8 assists in the regular season. In the playoffs, he averaged 28.4 points per game with 6.1 assists, including a 45-point performance in the Game 5 win over the San Antonio Spurs to clinch the title.

If Brunson is healthy, the Knicks should begin the year as one of the popular picks to win the Eastern Conference.
