With a loss to the Denver Nuggets, the Golden State Warriors now sit at 36–39, fourth in the Pacific, with their playoff hopes all but gone. But this slide has the rest of the league on edge, as they believe the Warriors will be aggressive to shake things up in free agency and trades.
As per NBA insider Marcus Thompson II, the league is not concerned about the Warriors winning another season, but they are worried that Golden State will break all hell loose during the summer.
Thompson is not alone in this assessment, as another NBA insider, Tim Kawami, believes that the other teams are quite concerned that the Golden State Warriors would throw cash-rich deals in the upcoming offseason.
The league isn’t necessarily concerned about the Warriors winning another title, but they are “concerned” that Golden State is going to “load up like crazy” this offseason, per @ThompsonScribe.

“The league, I think, isn’t concerned that they’re going to go win another title, but they are concerned that they are going to load up like crazy going into next season. I’m saying Kawhi Leonard, LeBron James. There are complications with both. But you’ve heard it, I’ve heard it. There is a conversation. I’m not saying from the league. I’m just saying, Kawhi’s contract is gonna get voided, theoretically. We don’t know,” noted Kawami.
With $700 million in annual revenue, the Warriors are the NBA’s top earners, and for them, spending a few extra million to land elite talent is hardly a concern. However, before that, the Warriors have a bigger task to solve.
Yes, the Warriors might be aggressive for the next season, but before that they will have to make sure to retain Kerr as the coach of the team once again, as Kerr is yet to sign an extension contract with the team. And his $35 million existing contract, which he signed back in February 2024, will come to an end at the conclusion of this season.
There were rumours that the front office would let go of Kerr, but as per Brett Siegel, that’s just a baseless rumour. “All of the talk about the franchise not wanting him back is simply false, and there is nothing to suggest that Kerr’s coaching staff or the Warriors have been preparing for this to be his last season,” Siegel wrote earlier this month.
It must be noted that Warriors star Stephen Curry has made it clear that he fully wants to continue his remaining journey with Kerr.
Now, the Warriors will have to figure out what they will do to keep the best talent within the team.
