The Toronto Raptors will be without superstar forward Kawhi Leonard for at least the next few weeks.
The Raptors announced that Leonard will miss at least a week due to a knee issue, and ESPN's Shams Charania reported that he will miss a "period of weeks" because of swelling in his left knee.
On Thursday, another injury update on Leonard emerged, this time from NBA insider Chris Haynes.
"Sources have confirmed to me that Kawhi will actually be out for an expected time of around 3-to-4 weeks, so a little longer than what people were expecting or hoping," Haynes said on The Association.
The Raptors said there was no acute injury in Leonard's knee, but they said he would undergo a "treatment and rehabilitation program to address swelling."
Leonard came back to Toronto this offseason in a blockbuster trade with the Los Angeles Clippers, and the Raptors gave him a two-year, $115 million contract extension before the regular season started.
Leonard played just two games this season, and he was averaging 19.5 points with 7.5 rebounds while playing less than 30 minutes in each game.
If Leonard does miss a month, it will be a crushing blow to the Raptors, but the hope is that he can return at full force.
