The Boston Celtics found their franchise cornerstone when they selected a 19-year-old Jayson Tatum out of Duke with the third overall pick in the 2017 NBA draft. Since then, Tatum has been instrumental in the team’s success, leading Boston to five Eastern Conference Finals appearances, two NBA Finals trips, and ultimately capturing an NBA Championship last season.
Individually, Tatum has established himself as one of the league’s elite players, boasting career averages of 23.5 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 3.8 assists. A six-time All-Star and three-time All-NBA First Team selection, Tatum has built an impressive résumé at just 27 years old.
To honor his 27th birthday on Monday, the NBA took to social media with a historic post celebrating his accomplishments.
Per the league’s official X account:
"JT's all-time ranks for players under 27:
☘️ No. 1 in threes made
☘️ 1 of 7 players with 13K pts
☘️ 1 of 2 players with 13K pts, 4K reb and 2K+ ast (LeBron)

Despite his accolades, Tatum is often regarded as one of the league’s most under-appreciated superstars. Already considered one of the greatest players in Celtics history, he has the opportunity to cement his legacy even further by leading Boston to another championship.
The Celtics currently sit second in the Eastern Conference with a 43-18 record, relying heavily on Tatum’s stellar season, where he is averaging 26.8 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 5.8 assists. As the playoffs approach, the reigning champions will once again look to their star forward to guide them toward another title.
