Bucks

Amir Coffey has earned his spot in Milwaukee. According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the veteran wing will make the Bucks’ regular-season roster after signing a non-guaranteed Exhibit 9 deal in August.

That contract is expected to be converted to a standard deal.

Coffey, 28, spent the first six seasons of his career with the Clippers before hitting free agency this summer.

The 6-foot-7 guard averaged 9.7 points while shooting 47 percent from the field, 41 percent from three and 89 percent from the line in 72 games last season.

His addition means the Bucks will have to make one more move before Monday’s roster deadline, likely waiving either Andre Jackson Jr. or Tyler Smith.

Jackson, the 36th pick in the 2023 draft, has an $800K partial guarantee, while Smith is owed $1.96 million. Jackson appeared in all four preseason games for Milwaukee, while Smith played in two.

Spurs

San Antonio has trimmed its roster down to the limit. The team waived Adam Flagler, Stanley Umude and Micah Potter, according to an official release.

Flagler, 25, was on a two-way deal with the Thunder last season and saw limited minutes in 37 appearances.

Umude, 26, filled a similar role for Milwaukee, appearing in 22 games while shooting just 19 percent from the floor.

Potter, 27, made 38 appearances for the Jazz last season, averaging 4.3 points and 4.3 rebounds in 18.6 minutes per game.

All three were on Exhibit 10 contracts and are expected to join the Austin Spurs, where they can earn bonuses worth up to $85,300 if they stay at least 60 days.

Veteran center Bismack Biyombo, who was also on a non-guaranteed deal, survived the cuts and will open the season on San Antonio’s 15-man roster.

The Spurs also signed and waived James Banks, Jamaree Bouyea, and Kyle Mangas — a move designed to send them to Austin as well.

Suns

Phoenix officially waived forward Sean McDermott and wing Nathan Mariano, per NBA.com’s transaction log.

The move comes just one day after the pair signed Exhibit 10 contracts.

McDermott, 28, last appeared in the NBA with Memphis during the 2020-21 season and has since played in Italy and Turkey.

Mariano, 22, has spent several seasons with Franca in Brazil’s top league.

Both are expected to join the Valley Suns in the G League and can each earn up to $85,300 in bonuses if they stay with the team for two months.

The Suns now have 14 standard contracts and three two-way deals, setting their roster ahead of opening night.

Despite having room for a 15th player, Phoenix isn’t expected to fill that spot due to luxury tax considerations.
