76ers

The Sixers made their final round of cuts as they set their roster for opening night. According to Kyle Neubeck of PHLY Sports, Philadelphia has waived MarJon Beauchamp, Malcolm Hill, Saint Thomas, and Kennedy Chandler, along with signing and releasing DeAndre Williams.

Beauchamp is the most familiar name, as the 2022 first-round pick has logged 135 NBA games, mostly with Milwaukee.

All five players were on Exhibit 10 contracts and are expected to report to the Delaware Blue Coats, per Neubeck.

They’ll be eligible for G League bonuses if they spend at least 60 days with the club, up to $85,300 for Beauchamp and Hill, while Chandler and Thomas are set for half that amount.

The Sixers now have 14 players on standard contracts and three on two-way deals, which finalizes their roster heading into the regular season.

Knicks

The Knicks have made their own cuts, officially waiving Garrison Mathews, Alex Len, and Matt Ryan. The team confirmed the moves via release.

Mathews had been impressive in camp, per Ian Begley of SNY.tv, but financial constraints made it impossible for New York to keep both him and Landry Shamet. Malcolm Brogdon’s retirement earlier this week opened one veteran slot, and Shamet will fill it.

Mathews shot 39 percent from deep with Atlanta last year and should draw interest elsewhere. Len and Ryan were longer shots — both signed in mid-September — though Ryan could rejoin New York’s G League affiliate.

The Knicks’ final standard roster spot is expected to go to rookie Mohamed Diawara, the 51st overall pick, whose minimum salary keeps New York below the hard cap.

Timberwolves

Minnesota rewarded strong preseason play from Johnny Juzang by converting his Exhibit 10 deal into a two-way contract, per Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic. The 6-foot-7 wing averaged 13.8 points in 17.6 minutes over five games, shooting an impressive 48 percent from three.

To make room, the Timberwolves waived Tristen Newton, who had accepted his two-way qualifying offer last month. Newton appeared in five preseason contests, averaging 5.2 points on 38.9 percent shooting.

Minnesota also waived veteran Alize Johnson and camp invitees Zyon Pullin and Jules Bernard, all of whom are expected to land with the Iowa Wolves in the G League.

With Juzang’s promotion, Minnesota enters the season with 15 players on standard deals and three on two-way contracts.
