The Grizzlies came away encouraged after Cameron Boozer‘s Summer League debut.
According to ESPN’s Tim MacMahon, scouts in attendance were especially impressed with Boozer’s passing after the No. 3 overall pick finished with 15 points, four rebounds and four assists in Memphis’ blowout victory over Oklahoma City.
The former Duke standout wasted little time making his presence felt, throwing down a two-handed dunk over 7-foot-3 Thunder rookie Aday Mara before settling into an efficient all-around performance.
“It felt comfortable,” Boozer said afterward. “Obviously, it’s still an adjustment because you’re going to a whole new team, a whole new system. But I felt good with this group.”
Boozer also embraced the expectations that come with being one of the centerpieces of Memphis’ young core.
“I think that’s a responsibility that I’ve had my whole career,” he said. “But the first thing you have to do is show up and show you deserve that.”
Andre Drummond is looking forward to helping the defending champion Knicks.
Speaking publicly for the first time since agreeing to a one-year deal, the veteran center acknowledged he’ll be stepping into the role vacated by Mitchell Robinson.
“Mitchell Robinson was a huge loss for them,” Drummond said, via Mika Ortiz. “I bring in a similar talent, similar energy, but I’m a veteran. I’ve been around for a long time. I know what it takes to win.”
The New York native added that he’s excited to return home and contribute to a championship contender.
Meanwhile, Zach Braziller of The New York Post reports Summer League will be an important opportunity for second-round pick Mohamed Diawara, while former first-round selection Pacome Dadiet could also boost his value after surfacing in trade speculation this offseason.
The Jazz continue filling out their roster by agreeing to a two-way contract with guard Trey Alexander, according to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line.
Alexander appeared in nine games for the Pelicans last season after beginning the year on a two-way deal, averaging 5.2 points while shooting better than 51 percent from the field. He was even more productive in the G League, averaging nearly 24 points per game.
The 23-year-old went undrafted out of Creighton in 2024 and earned G League Rookie of the Year honors during his first professional season with Denver’s affiliate before spending last year in New Orleans.
Alexander joins Blake Hinson and Tamar Bates on Utah’s current group of two-way players, though those spots often remain fluid throughout the season.
