Forward Georges Niang will be re-evaluated in two to three weeks as he works his way back from a stress reaction in his left foot, the Jazz announced.
Niang suffered the injury during offseason training, and while he’s making progress, there’s still no clear timeline for his return. Utah acquired the veteran forward in a summer trade with Boston that helped the Celtics clear cap space.
Niang split last season between the Hawks and Cavaliers, averaging 9.9 points and 3.4 rebounds while shooting just under 40 percent from three.
He previously spent four years in Utah and appeared in 23 playoff games for the Jazz, earning a reputation as a reliable floor spacer and locker-room voice.
Moses Moody will miss the final three games of the Warriors’ preseason with a left calf issue, according to ESPN’s Anthony Slater.
Coach Steve Kerr said he’s “not too concerned” about the injury and expects Moody to be ready for opening night. The 22-year-old wing has looked sharp in his two preseason starts, averaging 14.5 points while knocking down seven of 12 from beyond the arc.
After several seasons of bouncing in and out of the rotation, Moody appears to have secured a steady role as a shooter and perimeter defender. If he’s sidelined longer than expected, Brandin Podziemski and Buddy Hield could see extra minutes.
The Thunder made a pair of roster moves Sunday, signing 6-foot-11 forward-center Viktor Lakhin and waiving guard Jazian Gortman.
Lakhin, who played at Cincinnati before transferring to Clemson, averaged 11.4 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.5 blocks last season while shooting 51 percent from the field. Once considered a potential second-round pick, he went undrafted after suffering a foot injury in May.
Oklahoma City is expected to have signed him to an Exhibit 10 deal, giving the team flexibility to move him between training camp and the G League’s OKC Blue.
Gortman, 22, was also on an Exhibit 10 deal. He appeared in four preseason games, averaging nearly 10 points per night. The former Overtime Elite guard spent last season in the G League and could return there with the Blue.
With the moves, the Thunder remain at the 21-player offseason limit heading into the final week of camp.
