The Kings will be without Domantas Sabonis for at least three to four weeks after the All-Star center was diagnosed with a partially torn meniscus in his left knee, per ESPN.
Sacramento later confirmed the diagnosis in a team release.
Sabonis experienced knee soreness after Sunday’s game in San Antonio and an MRI revealed the tear.
It comes at a tough time for the Kings, who finally got back Keegan Murray on Thursday. Murray missed the first 15 games following thumb surgery.
Sabonis has already dealt with multiple injuries this fall, including hamstring and rib issues, and missed Wednesday’s loss in Oklahoma City.
The Kings were 3-12 entering Thursday and had dropped seven straight, all by double digits.
With Sabonis sidelined for at least 10 games, the Kings could lean more on Precious Achiuwa, Drew Eubanks and Maxime Raynaud.
Ty Jerome has yet to appear for the Grizzlies this season after suffering a high-grade right calf strain in the preseason.
But he may be getting close. The seventh-year guard will be reevaluated Friday, with a clearer return timeline expected soon, according to Damichael Cole of The Memphis Commercial Appeal.
Kawhi Leonard participated in portions of practice Wednesday, though he did not take part in contact drills.
Coach Tyronn Lue told reporters, including Law Murray of The Athletic, that Leonard is progressing.
“He did a few things,” Lue said. “He’s definitely gotten better. Just seeing him on the floor yesterday was really good to see.”
Leonard has not played since spraining his right ankle and foot on Nov. 3. The Clippers were 3-3 in games he played but have gone 1-7 without him (entering Thursday).
The two-time Finals MVP missed his ninth straight game Thursday in Orlando.
