Small forward Brandon Ingram has taken a big step in his recovery from the ankle injury that kept him sidelined after the Raptors acquired him at last season’s trade deadline.

According to Josh Lewenberg of TSN, Ingram has been cleared for contact and is expected to start scrimmaging soon after months of individual workouts this offseason.

Raptors coach Darko Rajakovic sounded upbeat about the versatile wing’s progress, saying, “He’s pain-free, he’s moving well, he got stronger. He’s in a really, really great spot.”

Toronto invested heavily to bring Ingram in, giving up multiple rotation players plus first- and second-round picks. Now they’re counting on him to help push the Raptors toward contention eventually.

Pistons Rookie Lanier Ready to Contribute

Detroit’s second-round pick Chaz Lanier isn’t shy about his expectations. During his introductory press conference, Lanier told reporters he feels ready to play immediately and contribute right away.

“Coming in to do whatever they need me to do,” he said, via Coty M. Davis of the Detroit News. “I am a shooter first, that is what I hang my hat on; putting the ball in the basket. However, I believe that at the NBA level, you need to be able to make an impact on defense. That is how I plan on making my mark.”

— Meanwhile, forward Ron Holland, who turned 20 this week, reflected on his rookie season with a mix of pride and hunger for more. “I was able to earn an every-game rotation role,” he said, via Omari Sankofa II of the Detroit Free Press, “but I feel like I left a lot on the table and could’ve done more. … That’s definitely putting a chip on my shoulder and being able to go into next season trying to thrive and get better every single day.”

Suns Coach High on Maluach, Livers

Suns coach Jordan Ott indicated he’s excited about the size and athleticism rookie center Khaman Maluach brings to the table.

“You know how big and long he is, it’s obvious,” Ott said, per Gerald Bourguet of PHNX Sports. “His ability to run creates a different dynamic, the vertical spacing that he has above the rim. And then just the overall size and rim protection, you can feel it every second he’s out there.”

Ott also praised the addition of Isaiah Livers on a two-way deal, calling him a “shooting piece” with size who’s now fully healthy.

“Excited to see him more this summer into training camp and into the season,” Ott said.
