NBA Player Thinks Chris Paul Could Join Knicks
Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

An NBA player told John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7 FM that Chris Paul could join the New York Knicks if he’s waived by the Washington Wizards.

Knicks president Leon Rose used to represent Paul, who was traded by the Phoenix Suns to the Wizards in the blockbuster Bradley Beal trade. However, despite Paul and Rose being close, both Gambadoro and Michael Scotto of HoopsHype believe CP3 will be on the Los Angeles Clippers or Los Angeles Lakers next season.

“I had a player tell me yesterday to watch out for the Knicks,” Gambadoro said. “It’s hard to believe that because when he came to Phoenix, his wife and children stayed in Los Angeles, and he could fly home on an off day very quickly. Being close to his family mattered. I still think the Lakers and Clippers probably have the best shot, probably more so the Lakers. Now, somebody could still trade for him with that salary. I find it hard to believe, but it’s possible. If he gets waived outright, I wouldn’t rule out the Knicks only because a player told me he was hearing they’re a good option for Chris, so keep that in mind. I think, in the end, everyone expects him to end up in Los Angeles.”

“Added Scotto: I’d be surprised if Paul came to the Knicks. There were certainly more flirtations with Paul over the years, dating back to when Amare’ Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony were here. It’s pretty much Jalen Brunson’s team. I think, ultimately, he ends up closer to L.A. When you look at the Clippers, they have to make a decision whether they’ll bring back Russell Westbrook or try to get Paul. I don’t know if I see a world where the Clippers have both of them (Westbrook and Paul). That would surprise me. I certainly think with the Lakers and how D’Angelo Russell ended the regular season well but ended the playoffs struggling and had to come off the bench, that I can see both teams (Clippers and Lakers) for Paul.”

Paul’s wife and kids live in Los Angeles. The 12-time All-Star used to play for the Clippers and is best friends with Lakers superstar LeBron James. The Clippers are interested in trading for Paul, while the Lakers hope the Wizards waive the future Hall of Famer so they can sign him in free agency.

The 38-year-old Paul averaged 13.9 points and 8.9 assists this past season. He’s still looking to win his first NBA championship.
