NBA Referees Made a Mistake in Cavaliers Game

The Cleveland Cavaliers want to pursue the best seed they can for the postseason as they currently rank fourth in the Eastern Conference with a 38-24 record. Meanwhile, the Brooklyn Nets are in contention to get the first seed, as their 15-45 record makes them second-worst team in the East.

While the records between the two teams are so lopsidedly different, that doesn't take away from the intensity of the contest the two had on Sunday. The March 1 duel between the two squads ended in a narrow win for the Cavs, escaping the Barclays Center with a 106-102 final score.

James Harden (22 points, nine boards and eight assists), Jarrett Allen (20 points, six boards, one dime and two steals) and Evan Mobley (17 points, 13 assists, two assists and one block) did a lot of heavy lifting on offense for Cleveland despite not having Donovan Mitchell on the floor. Meanwhile, Michael Porter Jr.'s 26 points led a scrappy Brooklyn squad that fought tooth and nail for the W.

There were plenty of controversial calls made in the game, which the league assessed through film analysis. The result of their check revealed one surprising call.

Referees Admit Incorrect Non-Call on Day'ron Sharpe During Cavaliers-Nets Game

The league released its Last Two Minute (L2M) Report on the Cavs-Nets game, explaining every call the officials made during the tight contest. While they claimed that most of the decisions the refs made were correct, they pointed out that they failed to call a defensive three-second call on Day'ron Sharpe.

"Sharpe (BKN) is in the paint for longer than three seconds without imminently actively guarding an opponent," the comment on the incorrect non-call explained.

Sharpe had good night for the Nets. He finished the game with seven points, eight boards, three assists, one steal and one block.

The Cavaliers will be looking to rise up the rankings when they face the Detroit Pistons next, while the Nets will hope to win their first game in nine when they play the Miami Heat in back-to-back games.
