The New Orleans Pelicans have had a rough few years and have consistently fallen short of the greatness many expected from them.
They are going through yet another rough patch right now, with their star player Zion Williamson seemingly out for the rest of the season – if not longer.
Despite losing Williamson, the team is actually doing better than expected – yet still far from staking a claim at the top of the Western Conference.
Fans of the team have been let down again and again and the city hasn’t necessarily embraced the Pelicans like it could.
This has led some to think that maybe the team will pack up and leave town for a different part of the country that will support them more.
But NBA reporter Keith Smith doesn’t think so.
Nah. The Pelicans are fine and will continue to be fine in New Orleans. They aren't going anywhere.

Replying to a tweet about the Pelicans heading to Seattle, a team that has been dying for another NBA team for decades, Smith said it isn’t happening.
“The Pelicans are fine and will continue to be fine in New Orleans. They aren’t going anywhere,” Smith tweeted, further adding that Seattle does deserve and need a team but should get one through an NBA expansion and not by taking another city’s team.
Here To Stay
The Pelicans have been in New Orleans since the 2002-03 season when the Charlotte Hornets relocated to The Big Easy.
The Hornets would eventually relocate back to Charlotte under the name of the Bobcats (now Hornets again) and the Pelicans would become their very own team with their own name, history, and records.
Since then, it’s been a decidedly mixed bag for the Pelicans, who saw Anthony Davis come and go and are possibly seeing Williamson come and go too.
While fans are growing tired of New Orleans’ shortcomings, they should remember that the team is still young in the grand scheme of things.
Brighter days may still be ahead.
