NBA reveals new details about in-season tournament
NBA commissioner Adam Silver. Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The NBA’s European soccer moment has arrived.

Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported on Wednesday that the league has finalized some interesting details for the new in-season tournament that is set to debut next NBA season.

Wojnarowski reveals that the Final Four of the tournament will be played on Dec. 7 and 9 in Las Vegas. Additionally, statistics accrued in the tournament will count for the league’s regular season (except for the championship game of the tournament).

Given the stunning success of the NBA’s play-in tournament, which was launched in the 2020 Orlando bubble and has been here to stay ever since, the league is trying to spice things up even more next season. We previously heard how the tournament will fit in with the regular 82-game schedule too.

While the in-season tournament will provide a juicy opportunity for extra entertainment in the middle of the long slog of the season (not to mention an additional trophy to compete for), the skeptics will be plentiful as well. At least the league is providing some strong incentives for the players though.
