The Hawks have yet to offer All-Star guard Trae Young a contract extension, per NBA insider Marc Spears of ESPN.
Young is currently eligible for a four-year deal worth $229 million. Word is, he’s disappointed Atlanta hasn’t even brought it up.
He can become an unrestricted free agent in 2026, and with every day that passes without movement, the situation becomes more notable.
Young, 26, averaged 24.2 points and 11.6 assists last season. Atlanta finished ninth in the East and was eliminated in the play-in tournament.
Westbrook not likely for Heat
The Heat have been linked to Russell Westbrook in free agency, but there’s no real traction there.
As Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel put it, Westbrook likely wants to join a contender and land a meaningful role. Miami may not check either box.
Westbrook would slide in behind Tyler Herro, Norman Powell and Davion Mitchell on the depth chart. And adding any player now would create salary cap and tax complications.
So far, not much smoke around this one.
Powell training nearby
Norman Powell was dealt to Miami last month and is already in South Florida.
But he’s not working out with his new team. Instead, he’s training with the Jamaican national team at Florida Atlantic University.
“I was expecting camp to be in Jamaica, then I learned it was in Boca,” Powell said, via the Miami Herald. “Then I got traded to the Heat. So now I’m here and looking for a place to stay.”
Holmes heading to Europe
Richaun Holmes has agreed to a deal with Greek club Panathinaikos, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
The deal will make Holmes one of the highest-paid players in Europe.
Holmes, 31, appeared in 31 games with the Wizards last season, averaging 7.4 points and 5.7 rebounds. He was waived in June before his $13.3 million salary for 2025-26 became guaranteed.
The former Kings starter had interest from other EuroLeague clubs, including Fenerbahce, but Panathinaikos made the strongest push.
The Athens-based powerhouse missed on Jonas Valanciunas earlier this summer but landed Holmes as a strong Plan B.
