NBA Rumors: Heat, Duncan Robinson, Suns, Nick Richards, Jazz, Ace Bailey

Heat forward Duncan Robinson is officially hitting the NBA free agent market.

Robinson has exercised his early termination option for the 2025-26 season, making him an unrestricted free agent, per ESPN’s Shams Charania. While not a traditional player option, the early termination clause allows him to walk away from the final year of his contract, which would have paid him $19.9 million.

Only $9.9 million of that salary was guaranteed, meaning Miami would have faced a decision on whether to eat the remaining $10 million or waive him to save money. Now, the two sides can potentially work out a new contract altogether.

One option being discussed is a three-year deal that would lower Robinson’s cap hit while still giving him a solid payday, according to Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press. Robinson, 31, remains one of the league’s most dangerous perimeter shooters and could draw interest around the NBA if he and the Heat fail to reach a new agreement.

Suns Guarantee Richards’ Deal

Phoenix is moving forward with center Nick Richards, as the Suns will guarantee his $5 million salary for next season, The Athletic’s Fred Katz reports.

Richards was acquired from the Hornets during the season and quickly carved out a role in Phoenix’s rotation, starting 34 of the 36 games he played. He averaged 9.3 points, 8.2 rebounds and 1.0 blocks in 22 minutes per game.

Despite a crowded frontcourt that now includes Mark Williams (also formerly of Charlotte), No. 15 pick Khaman Maluach, and former second-rounder Oso Ighodaro, the Suns opted to retain Richards. His contract could hold trade value if Phoenix decides to shuffle pieces again later this summer.

Bailey Already Embracing SLC

Any concerns that No. 3 overall pick Ace Bailey might be hesitant about Utah can be put to rest.

The Jazz rookie showed up in Salt Lake City on Saturday rocking team gear and already looks the part of a franchise cornerstone. Andy Larsen of The Salt Lake Tribune noted Bailey’s arrival, and longtime columnist Gordon Monson welcomed him with a guide to the city — and a reminder that stardom awaits if Bailey delivers on his upside.

The Jazz are holding a press conference Sunday to introduce Bailey and the rest of their rookie class.
