NBA Rumors: Kings, Malik Monk, Pistons, Sixers, Ben Simmons

The Pistons are exploring their next move in a busy offseason and may be targeting Kings guard Malik Monk, per NBA insider Jake Fischer of The Stein Line. With Dennis Schroder expected to sign with Sacramento, a sign-and-trade could be in the works that would send Monk to Detroit.

Monk’s future with the Kings has been murky for weeks, as Sacramento has reportedly been open to moving the high-scoring guard in search of point guard help. Fischer adds that the Kings previously attempted to acquire Kobe Bufkin and Georges Niang from the Hawks in exchange for Monk, but that deal was turned down.

Detroit, meanwhile, has been aggressively searching for offensive firepower in the backcourt. The Pistons have already landed Caris LeVert on a two-year deal and are reportedly interested in Heat sharpshooter Duncan Robinson, who remains on the trade block.

The Pistons’ need became more pressing after Malik Beasley’s availability came into question following reports of a league investigation tied to gambling violations. The club is aiming to build a more functional rotation under new head coach J.B. Bickerstaff, with an emphasis on spacing, decision-making and versatility around Cade Cunningham and Jaden Ivey.

Westbrook Not Expected to Land with Knicks

While earlier reports suggested there was mutual interest between the Knicks and Russell Westbrook, Stefan Bondy of the New York Post now reports that New York is unlikely to pursue the veteran guard.

The team is expected to finalize a deal with Jordan Clarkson after he clears waivers, likely occupying one of the final guard rotation spots. With Jalen Brunson and others also entrenched in the backcourt, playing time would likely be limited for Westbrook.

Yabusele Drawing Interest as Sixers Shop Drummond

Guerschon Yabusele’s brief return to the NBA with the 76ers may be coming to an end. According to Tony Jones of The Athletic, the French forward is unlikely to remain in Philadelphia. Yabusele returned stateside after six seasons in Europe and impressed with his mobility, floor spacing and passing.

Jeff McDonald of the San Antonio Express-News reports that the Spurs have shown interest in signing the 28-year-old, while Jones adds that the Nuggets are another team to monitor.

Philly’s frontcourt plans may hinge on the future of Andre Drummond, who remains on the roster with a $5 million expiring deal. The Sixers have reportedly been trying to move him, but a trade has yet to materialize.

Simmons Unlikely to Return to LA

Amir Coffey and Ben Simmons are both unlikely to return to the Clippers, per The Athletic’s Law Murray. Simmons, who signed with Los Angeles late in the season, is reportedly seeking more than a minimum-salary contract in NBA free agency.
