The NBA woke up Friday morning to a headline few expected: Dillon Brooks — one of the league’s most controversial players — was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in Scottsdale, Arizona.
According to reports, the Phoenix Suns forward was pulled over by police early Friday morning and taken into custody shortly after around 1–2 a.m. local time. Officers conducted an investigation during the traffic stop before arresting Brooks on suspicion of DUI.
Authorities transported Brooks to a local jail where he was booked and processed before being released a few hours later, roughly around 3:20–3:30 a.m.
So far, prosecutors have not announced whether formal charges will be filed, and the Suns organization has said it is gathering more information about the incident before commenting further.

The timing couldn’t be worse for Brooks or the Suns.
The 30-year-old forward is already sidelined with a fractured hand suffered in late February, an injury expected to keep him out for several weeks.
Before the injury, Brooks was having one of the best offensive seasons of his career. The veteran wing was averaging around 20.9 points per game while helping Phoenix remain competitive in a crowded Western Conference playoff race.
His absence due to injury had already forced the Suns to adjust their rotation — and now the off-court situation adds even more uncertainty for the team moving forward.
Brooks has long been one of the NBA’s most polarizing players.
The Canadian forward built his reputation with the Memphis Grizzlies as a physical defender and relentless trash-talker. His aggressive style earned him both fans and critics across the league, and he later earned NBA All-Defensive Second Team honors during his career.
After stints with the Houston Rockets and Memphis, Brooks eventually landed in Phoenix as part of a blockbuster multi-team trade that reshaped the Suns’ roster.
Even on the court this season, Brooks has frequently made headlines — from heated moments with opponents to technical fouls and suspensions.
At the moment, the biggest question is whether the incident will lead to discipline from the NBA or the Suns organization.
The league has historically taken DUI incidents seriously, and depending on the outcome of the investigation, Brooks could face potential fines, suspension, or other penalties.
For now, the situation remains developing. What’s certain is that the Suns — already battling injuries and playoff pressure — are now dealing with another unexpected storyline.
And for Dillon Brooks, the player many fans already love to hate, Friday’s arrest has suddenly added a new chapter to one of the NBA’s most controversial careers.
