NBA Trade Idea Reunites Anthony Davis With Former Teammate On Mavericks

The Dallas Mavericks shocked the sports world in February by trading Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers. Anthony Davis and Max Christie went from Los Angeles to Dallas in the blockbuster trade.

A 10-time All-Star, Davis appeared in only nine regular-season games with the Mavericks due to an adductor injury. He averaged 20.0 points, 10.1 rebounds, 4.4 assists, 0.6 steals and 2.2 blocks.

After making the NBA Finals in 2024, Dallas missed the playoffs this year. To make matters worse, Kyrie Irving tore his left ACL on March 3 against the Sacramento Kings. The nine-time All-Star could miss a chunk of next season.

The basketball gods smiled on the Mavericks during the draft lottery, as Dallas won the lottery and has the first overall pick in this year's draft. Nico Harrison is expected to draft Duke's Cooper Flagg.

Since it's unknown when Irving will play again, one NBA analyst believes the Mavericks need to acquire a point guard this summer. Dan Favale of Bleacher Report proposed that Dallas trade for Boston Celtics guard Jrue Holiday, who was teammates with Davis on the New Orleans Pelicans from 2013-14 to 2018-19.

Here is the three-team trade idea Favale proposed:

Boston Celtics Receive: Daniel Gafford, P.J. Washington

Brooklyn Nets Receive: Dwight Powell (player option), 2026 second-round pick (most favorable of Minnesota, New Orleans, New York or Portland, via Boston)

Dallas Mavericks Receive: Jrue Holiday

A two-time champion, Holiday averaged 11.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 1.1 steals and 0.4 blocks for the Celtics this season. The UCLA product will make $32.4 million next season.

Holiday turns 35 in June. He has career averages of 15.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, 6.2 assists, 1.4 steals and 0.5 blocks with the Philadelphia 76ers, Pelicans, Milwaukee Bucks and Celtics.
