The San Antonio Spurs are acquiring All-Star guard De’Aaron Fox from the Sacramento Kings in a multi-team deal, Shams Charania of ESPN confirmed on Sunday. The Kings, on the other hand, will receive Zach LaVine from the Chicago Bulls.

The full details of the trade feature the Spurs acquiring Jordan McLaughlin from the Kings. Together with LaVine, Sacramento receives Sidy Cissoko, three first-round picks (2025 CHA, 2027 SAS, 2031 MIN), three second-round picks (2025 CHI, 2028 DEN, 2028 own back). The Bulls, meanwhile, receive Zach Collins, Tre Jones, Kevin Huerter and their own 2025 pick via SAS.

In January, the Kings opened up to trade talks regarding Fox. This came after the organization fired head coach Mike Brown after a sluggish start to the season. After letting Brown go, Sacramento didn’t have a massive improvement and decided to trade away their star guard.

Conversely, San Antonio has stated that they have been searching for a star who would complement All-Star big man Victor Wembanyama. Among the players connected to the group was Fox. Wemby now has the opportunity to play with one of the league’s top point guards. He has already played 45 games this season and is enjoying one of his greatest seasons to date. On average, the 6-foot-3 guard is dishing out 6.1 assists, 5.0 rebounds, and 25.0 points.

Fox was drafted by the Kings in 2017 and has helped the franchise rise from the bottom. During the 2022-23 season, he helped the franchise break their 16-year playoff drought. The lefty finisher played for the organization for eight years and averaged 21.5 points, 3.9 rebounds and 6.1 assists.

The Kings have now reunited LaVine and DeMar DeRozan in Sacramento. The duo played together with the Bulls for three seasons and led the team to one playoff appearance.

What does the Spurs’ starting lineup look like after trading for Fox?

The Spurs had one of the best mid-season upgrades in trading for Fox. They now have a young point guard who could fit in their timeline with Wemby. The team still has Chris Paul and he could come off the bench for the team. The one-time All-Star could be San Antonio’s starting guard moving forward.

At the shooting guard spot, Devin Vassell will be their go-to guy. Vassell has played well this year, averaging 16.2 points on 43.5% shooting. Harrison Barnes could still be the team’s starting small forward. While youngster Jeremy Sochan will be the power forward. Sochan has only started 19 out of the 27 games he’s played. With Fox in the lineup, he could regain his starting spot.

Wemby is going to be the Spurs’ guy in the center for the Spurs.
