The blockbuster trade that brought Anthony Davis to the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for Luka Doncic shocked the NBA’s dynamics. However, Ashley Moss of CBS believes Davis is just a tool for the Mavericks since their actual target, according to her, is Jimmy Butler.
Davis has been a cornerstone of the Los Angeles Lakers for over five seasons, bringing a championship with them in 2020. Before his sudden departure from the Lakers, he averaged 25.7 points and 11.9 rebounds.
AD would be in a new environment with the Mavericks, and it would take time for him to adapt to Kyrie Irving and Klay Thompson’s plays.
But for Moss, the veteran All-Star won’t last with Dallas.
Last Sunday, the CBS Sports analyst claimed that the Mavericks are using Anthony Davis to secure the Miami Heat star forward, Butler.
“I’d be interested if Anthony Davis is a piece that ultimately the Mavericks potentially use to try to get Jimmy Butler. My money is the Mavericks possibly going for Jimmy Butler,” Moss said.

Moreover, Moss believes the Mavericks would make more transactions to secure their roster before the trade deadline.
“This is not the move you make just to keep your roster the same, and that goes for the Mavericks, and that goes for the Lakers,” Moss added.
The Sunday trade included the Mavericks receiving Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and a future first-round pick. Meanwhile, the Lakers got Doncic, Maxi Kleber, Markieff Morris, and a 2029 future first-round pick.
Davis and Doncic, the biggest figures of the trade, are significant additions to their new teams. However, the latter’s effect will be slow since he still struggles with calf injury he obtained last December.
Anthony Davis had arrived at the Dallas Mavericks after multiple seasons and a championship with the LA Lakers. Furthermore, according to Chris Haynes, Davis has accepted his new squad and is ready to perform.
During his “Haynes Briefs” clip on X/Twitter, the ESPN analyst shared how Davis’ candid reaction regarding the massive trade.
“There is a connection there. I was told that AD was initially shocked, but as of right now, he is feeling good about the situation and moving forward,” Haynes said last Sunday.

Anthony Davis had been the Lakers’ big man for six seasons, serving as their all-around shooter and defender. He’ll take his skills to the Mavericks and could be the team’s missing piece to aid their Kyrie Irving and Klay Thompson led-roster to another chance at the Finals.
