NBA Trade Rumors: Latest On Pelicans, Brandon Ingram

Brandon Ingram‘s situation with the Pelicans is shaping up to be one of the most fascinating storylines as the NBA trade season approaches.

On paper, he’s an ideal asset for teams looking to make a splash: a 26-year-old All-Star-caliber wing with versatility and scoring ability.

But in reality, Ingram’s $36 million expiring contract and his desire for a raise make him a tricky player to move.

To add another layer of complexity, Ingram recently switched to Klutch Sports and has yet to sign an extension with New Orleans. That’s usually a sign that the player and team aren’t exactly on the same page.

ESPN’s Shams Charania reports that Klutch is in “constant dialogue” with Pelicans lead executive David Griffin about Ingram’s future, and while nothing’s imminent, the writing is on the wall: New Orleans is reportedly “much more likely” to trade him than retain him beyond this season.

The Pelicans, meanwhile, are sitting at a league-worst 5-20, and injuries have obliterated any hopes of building momentum. Ingram’s indefinite absence due to a sprained ankle only compounds matters.

This kind of record typically forces teams into sell mode, and it’s no surprise that other names — like Herbert Jones and CJ McCollum — are popping up in trade rumors too.

Interestingly, Minnesota’s interest in Ingram dates back to last summer, before the Timberwolves sent Karl-Anthony Towns to New York. A potential swap involving Towns and Ingram reportedly didn’t get far due to Towns’ massive salary ($49.2 million this season). But with both teams at a crossroads, you wonder if discussions could pick up again.

For New Orleans, this might be the moment to pivot. If they can flip Ingram for assets that fit Zion Williamson’s timeline — or even rebuild completely — it could be the start of a new chapter in the Big Easy.
