The NBA has been flooded with star player trades in recent years, with Kevin Durant being the latest. As the NBA offseason comes to an end, here are three star players who could be the next to be traded.
Trae Young has had his name brought up in trade talks for years now, and if the Atlanta Hawks fail to contend, he may find himself wearing another jersey soon. He is an extremely talented guard who is capable of knocking down any shot on the court. He also brings elite playmaking that makes the players around him better. Many NBA teams would be fortunate to have a player of Young’s caliber.
The Hawks have been trying to build around Young for years, but have had little success. An interesting team to keep an eye out for in a trade is the Toronto Raptors, who have been searching for a star guard. Young would fit well alongside Scottie Barnes and Brandon Ingram to build a strong group of players capable of contending. The trade itself would not be too difficult to complete, as the contract of Immanuel Quickley and other smaller contracts with picks could get it done.
Zion Williamson has not been able to stay healthy for the New Orleans Pelicans, and perhaps patience is starting to run thin. If they decide to part ways with their former first overall pick, it may not be as easy to find a trade partner as it once was. His injuries have kept him off the court, but his ability when he does play warrants a sizable contract. If a team is going to trade for him, they will need to offer a lot more money than they would like.
Williamson may not have as many suitors as other star players, but NBA teams will certainly be calling. The team that makes the most sense is the Detroit Pistons. The contracts of Tobias Harris and Duncan Robinson make a move simple, as those two players and picks would be enough to get the deal done. The only question is what the Pelicans want to do. If they are tired of dealing with Williamson not being able to get on the court, he could find himself in Detroit playing next to Cade Cunningham.
Lamelo Ball’s play style has been questioned for a while, with the main debate being “can he contribute to winning basketball in the NBA?”. This is certainly a fair question, and if the Charlotte Hornets begin to agree, he could be shipped off. Many teams would be interested in the talented young guard who could spark a shift in any franchise.
The Sacramento Kings can trade for Ball, and he would fill the void left after trading away De’Aaron Fox. Demar Derozan and Keegan Murray would be the only players needed to be involved, as their contracts match, but picks would certainly need to be included as well. Domantas Sabonis and Ball would create a fun duo with great playmaking capabilities. If the Kings surrounded them with good role players, they could compete in the challenging West.
Star player trades have become common in the NBA, and these three players could be next. Ball, Williamson, and Young are talented enough to improve any roster they are added to.
