NBA Trade Talk: Thunder Should Engage Nets on Day'Ron Sharpe Deal

The Oklahoma City Thunder have already been active on the day of the NBA trade deadline, acquiring Gordon Hayward from the Charlotte Hornets. In this deal, Oklahoma City sent out Tre Mann and Davis Bertans, both of whom were out of the Thunder rotation.

Given OKC still has a significant amount of draft capital to work with, along with interesting pieces like former first-round pick Aleksej Pokusevski, GM Sam Presti may not be done making moves. 

As good as Hayward is at 33 years old, he's more of a wing or undersized power forward than he is a player who helps the player fill the team's huge void at center. Acquiring a true big with real size is something Oklahoma City still needs.

The Brooklyn Nets are a team that is reportedly shopping several pieces, including Royce O'Neale, Dorian Finney-Smith and Spencer Dinwiddie. With that in mind, there's another player on the Brooklyn roster who would be a great fit in Oklahoma City as a backup center. 

A former first-round pick, Day'Ron Sharpe is 6-foot-11 and 265 pounds. He is also just 22 years old, so could be a developmental piece in Oklahoma City that could also help fill minutes now. He's battled injuries this season, but holistically during his time with the Nets has been a bench piece who doesn't get consistent playing time. 

As such, the Thunder could look to buy low. If Brooklyn is hoping to deal today, players like Sharpe are likely available on the market. Whether it's Pokusevski, draft capital or another package, Oklahoma City should consider Sharpe or another rotation center.
