NBA veteran shares story about trash-talking Kevin Durant

Orlando Magic forward Mo Wagner learned about trash-talking his opponents the hard way when he was a rookie, as he relayed in a hilarious story.

In an appearance on “Pardon My Take,” Wagner recounted how he accidentally trash-talked Kevin Durant while Wagner was still a rookie with the Los Angeles Lakers. As Wagner recounts, he knew immediately that he had made a big mistake.

“I talk a lot, obviously. I’ve kind of put that back a little bit, but one of the first times I matched up against Kevin Durant, all of a sudden, I’m on the court with him," Wagner said. "Kevin Durant guards me, and I think he’s not taking me seriously at all. He doesn’t even know who he was. I’m on a pick-and-pop three and he fouls me. I didn’t realize it was him and turned around and was like ‘Yeah, you can’t guard me.’

“I have no credibility whatsoever at this point. It’s Kevin Durant I just talked smack to. At that point, he was on the Warriors, and it was him, Draymond Green, and Demarcus Cousins that were on the free throw line box out talking s— to me while I was shooting three free throws. I’m telling you, I was so shook. I made one out of three.”

Durant took note of the story and added his own hilarious wrinkle.

“I walked away from that game thinking, damn that rookie is [a jerk],” Durant posted on X.

For reference, Wagner averaged 4.8 points per game in a bit-part role as a rookie. If anyone should be talking trash to Durant, it is not him. It does not help that the Lakers lost by 19 points in the game in question.

Durant famously has no problem engaging with his haters. This one had to be too easy for him.
