Nets assistant Jacque Vaughn staying with Brooklyn for next season

Brooklyn Nets assistant coach Jacque Vaughn won't be joining the New Orleans Pelicans or any other franchise this summer.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported Tuesday that Vaughn is removing his name from consideration for any head-coaching gigs, in part so that he can spend more time with his two teenage sons.

Per The Times-Picayune | New Orleans Advocate, the 46-year-old was "one of two candidates who were viewed by league sources as the strongest contenders to take over in New Orleans." That report named Milwaukee Bucks assistant Charles Lee as the other candidate.

Most recently, Vaughn served as Brooklyn's interim coach for the close of the 2019-20 season and notched a 7-3 record but ultimately lost out on the main job to Steve Nash. Vaughn was also head coach of the Orlando Magic from the fall of 2012 through early February 2015 and went 58-158.

With the superstar trio of Kevin Durant, James Harden and Kyrie Irving currently set to return to the Nets for another season (maybe?), Vaughn should only improve his resume via at least one more year with the organization.
