The Brooklyn Nets have became an NBA afterthought on the heels of a 26-56 season one season after the franchise fired controversial former coach Jacque Vaughn.
Current head coach Jordi Fernandez was hired by general manager Sean Marks following Vaughn's dismissal and hasn't been able to turn things around yet.
On Tuesday, the Nets offered a window into their franchise's recent meeting at the team's practice facility, during which coach Fernandez spoke candidly about the type of team the organization wants to build for the coming seasons.
"The number one priority for me on the court is to have a plan in place...To build a team with a soul," Fernandez said about his plans for this offseason.
Fernandez indicated he wants to change the culture, work ethic and modus operandi of his team heading into a pivotal 2025 fall season and beyond.
"I care about creating winning habits, and you guys know how it feels when you're in a winning environment, he said to the Nets' front office staff in a video shared on the team's X account.
Fernandez indicated that the team should focus on offseason acquisitions, whether through the draft or otherwise.
"You guys asked me, and I think pretty much all of you is like, if we go and scout, what type of player (are we) scouting?
"We want good dudes here," he added.
Fernandez referenced a quote on a video screen that he indicated looms large going into the season, considering the Nets have never won an NBA championship.
"If you want something you've never had, you have to do something you've never done," the video screen read.
