Nets' Kyrie Irving fined $50K for 'obscene gestures' toward Celtics fans

Brooklyn Nets superstar guard Kyrie Irving spent a portion of his Sunday feuding with Boston Celtics fans during what became a 115-114 loss, and the one-time NBA champion flipped off some of those individuals on multiple occasions during the game.

As had been expected, the Association responded and hit back at Irving's wallet ahead of Game 2 of the playoff series. 

Per an official release, the NBA announced that Irving has been fined $50,000 for "making obscene gestures on the playing court and directing profane language toward the spectator stands." 

Following Sunday's defeat, Irving offered an explanation for his actions that cost him thousands of dollars. 

"When people start yelling 'p---y' or 'b----' and 'f--- you' and all this stuff, there's only but so much you take as a competitor," Irving said, according to ESPN. "We're the ones expected to be docile and be humble, take a humble approach, f--- that, it's the playoffs. This is what it is."

Irving played for the Celtics from 2017 through the spring of 2019 before he signed with the Nets as a free agent and is certainly no fan favorite among the Boston faithful. The seven-time All-Star will once again play in front of a raucous TD Garden crowd on Wednesday night.
