Nets reportedly held a past interest in Cavs big Dean Wade
USA TODAY Sports

Besides Donovan Mitchell, the Brooklyn Nets have reportedly developed an interest in acquiring one of the Cleveland Cavaliers’ rotational pieces.

Per Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com,Cavaliers big man Dean Wade drew the past interest of Brooklyn via trade.

“A source tells me that the Brooklyn Nets have expressed interest in Dean Wade in the past.”

Dean Wade: 2023-24 Background check

Wade is currently in his fifth year with the Cavaliers in which he is averaging 5.1 points and 4.5 boards in 30 games of play per 21.8 minutes so far this season.

He's at his worst shooting season of his career at 39.4 percent. Nevertheless, he remains reliable in his ability to space the floor. As a stretch big, Dean is shooting 36.4 percent from the three-point line out of 3.6 attempts per game.

He remains under contract until the conclusion of the 2025-26 season in which he'll earn over $18M in total.

Will the Nets revive their interest in Wade?

“Past” is the key word in this report but the Nets might want to reignite their interest in Wade considering that they'll miss Day'Ron Sharpe’s presence for two weeks because of a knee hyperextension. It would also be a delight to add a big who can shoot from the three-point line and can serve as a complementing backup for Nic Claxton.

But considering that the Cavs are severely gutted at their big man slate with Evan Mobley out for such a long time, they might be hesitant about the idea of moving Wade via trade. Since Mobley went down due to a knee injury, the 27-year-old saw an increased load and is continuing to live up to the challenge as Cleveland's occasional starting power forward.

For now, it remains yet to be seen if the Nets will regain their intent to go for Wade and if the Cavs will want to cut their ties with the veteran.
