Nets reportedly prefer that Kevin Durant stay in Brooklyn

Kevin Durant’s decision to request a trade from the Brooklyn Nets sent shockwaves throughout the NBA.

In the immediate aftermath, many thought a deal was inevitably going to happen quickly.

Since then, however, it has become clear that in fact will not be the case.

This past week, ESPN NBA insider Brian Windhorst appeared on ‘Get Up’ and revealed what the Nets’ preference for Durant actually is.

“As for Kevin Durant, here’s what there is: nothing,” Windhorst said. “There is no movement here. The executives are leaving Summer League. The executives are going on vacation.”

Where does that leave Durant? In Brooklyn, apparently.

“At this point, the Nets’ preferred situation is for Kevin Durant to stay with them,” Windhorst added. “There is no trade they they’ve got that they like.”

The New Orleans Pelicans recently rejected the Nets’ offer to them for a Durant trade. Beyond that, only one team at the moment seems to loom as a legitimate suitor for his services.

The Los Angeles Lakers’ best offer for Durant is a matter of public record. Ditto for the Boston Celtics’ best proposal. And the Toronto Raptors’ top proposal. And the Portland Trail Blazers’ bid.

There is only one team that Durant doesn’t want to go to. Everyone else is still in the hunt.

And while the Nets are reportedly shocked at how bad the offers thus far have been for Durant, it’s hard to see that being the case forever.

Eventually, someone will give.

At that point, the Nets will need to decide whether they’re truly ready to part with a guy of Durant’s caliber who has four years left on his deal.

What will the front office ultimately decide to do?

Time will tell.
