The Los Angeles Lakers got blown out by the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday night, 139-96. L.A. trailed by as many as 46 points and was never ahead in the contest, with OKC starting off hot with a 44-21 first quarter.
However, the most frustrating part of the game for the Lakers wasn't the loss. It was the fact that superstar guard Luka Doncic suffered an injury midway through the third quarter.
As he was trying to get past Thunder guard Jalen Williams, Doncic planted his left leg and was hurt in the process. He immediately let go of the ball and pulled up his leg while hobbling in pain.
Initial replays of the sequence showed that it was a non-contact injury, and a new angle posted by Bleacher Report confirmed as much. Doncic didn't hit Williams' knee and was clearly in pain after he planted his foot.
Doncic went on to lie down on the baseline and covered his face with his hands as the Lakers called a timeout. He was eventually ruled out of the contest, with the team citing a left hamstring strain.
It's worth noting that Doncic appeared to tweak his hamstring late in the first half, but he felt good enough to continue playing until the unfortunate development.

The severity of Doncic's injury has yet to be determined. Lakers head coach JJ Redick told reporters postgame that the Slovenian guard will have an MRI on Friday to get a better assessment of his left hamstring.
If Doncic's injury is indeed a hamstring strain, he could be out for multiple weeks depending on the severity. Dr. Evan Jeffries, an NBA and NFL injury specialist, posted after the incident that a Grade 1 hamstring strain could cost Doncic one to two weeks, while a Grade 2 strain could keep him sidelined for three to six weeks.
