New Angle Emerges of Thunder-Spurs Scuffle

The Oklahoma City Thunder held a six-point lead late in the third quarter against the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday night when tensions flared.

Spurs forward Julian Champagnie had the ball at the top of the key, guarded closely by Thunder forward Kenrich Williams. Williams played physical defense, and after Champagnie passed the ball to Stephon Castle, the two started shoving each other.

As that unfolded, Castle found a cutting Jeremy Sochan, who finished the play with a reverse dunk to cut the deficit to four.

Immediately afterward, players from both teams rushed over to Champagnie and Williams at center-court. Things escalated even more as Thunder forward Luuentz Dort entered the mix.

ESPN captured parts of the scuffle from the main broadcast angle but later aired a replay with a clearer view.

Meanwhile, Thunder beat writer Joel Lorenzi had the best perspective from his seat, and his footage quickly surfaced on social media.

After reviewing the play, the referees ejected three players: Williams, Champagnie, and Dort.

There’s also a possibility that the NBA could hand down further suspensions.

The Thunder went on to win 146-132, improving to 49-11 on the season. The Spurs, on the other hand, dropped to 25-34.

Oklahoma City is back on the court Monday against the Houston Rockets (8 p.m. ET), while San Antonio returns to action Tuesday against the Brooklyn Nets (8:30 p.m. ET).
