The Dallas Mavericks seem to have a knack for getting blockbuster headlines. Just a year back, the team shocked everyone with their trade of Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers. Now, as the franchise parts ways with Jason Kidd, even names like Charles Barkley have gone speechless. Now, a new update has emerged on why the shocking decision was taken.
According to Chris Mannix, the five-season tenure of Kidd could have become a nasty power struggle. Already eyeing the top front office job, the head coach also had Cooper Flagg and Kyrie Irving’s backing.
“More likely, the decision to can Kidd was about eliminating a potential power struggle. As Sports Illustrated has reported, Kidd wanted the top front office job,” wrote Mannix.
He further added, “He’s also influential with ownership, specifically team governor Patrick Dumont, and has the support of Cooper Flagg, Dallas’s franchise star, and Kyrie Irving, its All-Star point guard. By moving on from Kidd, Ujiri may believe he is excising a potential problem before it becomes one.”

Looking back, Kidd could only lead Dallas to a couple of playoff appearances during his five-season run. Now, as the franchise moves on, Masai Ujiri vows to come into the coach search with an open mind. Meanwhile, with Kidd now gone, the Mavericks are in full search mode for their next head coach.
Immediately after announcing its latest move, the front office got busy. According to reports from insider Brett Siegel, a top target for Dallas will be Duke head coach Jon Scheyer. Surely, there are no guesses that one of the biggest factors for preferring Scheyer is his connection with Cooper Flagg.
Looking at his resume, the Duke head coach has already led his team to three ACC Tournament titles and a couple of regular-season Conference championships. Owing to his incredible showing, Jon Scheyer earned the ACC and NABC Coach of the Year honors this year.
At the moment, a lot of discussions are going on regarding Kidd’s recent fate. Now, fans will be eager to find out who will ultimately replace him.
