One of the LA Lakers’ newest signings knows he needs to follow LeBron James and Luka Doncic’s lead next season.

The Los Angeles Lakers have made some major changes to their roster this offseason. The front office brought in some massive pieces to address some of their weaknesses.

In their first set of moves, the Lakers signed Jake LaRavia and Deandre Ayton, bringing in a wing and a center that they sorely needed.

Following this, Luka Doncic helped recruit Marcus Smart to the Lakers, adding a strong perimeter defender with playoff experience to their ranks.

But it’s their latest two-way star’s comments that should encourage fans, as he is bought into playing his role to help Luka Doncic and LeBron James.

Nick Smith Jr. knows he must make shots to play with Luka Doncic and LeBron James

New LA Lakers’ two-way star Nick Smith Jr. spoke to reporters after his first practice on what he expects his role on the team to be.

Smith Jr. understands that playing with Luka Doncic and LeBron James requires him to think quick and make shots, and he’s not trying to overstep his bounds and play a bigger role.

“We’ve got some of the best players to ever play the game here. Obviously, I’m not finna come in here, whoopty-doo, and do everything. It’s definitely going to be very quick decision-making.

“I understand that. It’s either you shoot or get off of it, especially when you’re a young player trying to learn. I still know my game and know what I’m capable of. I got a lot of ways to go in this league.”

If Smith Jr. can be a reliable three-point shooter for the Lakers, he can play a decent role for them while coming off the bench.

LA Lakers could make serious waves in the West with new-look roster

Nick Smith Jr. isn’t the only young signing committed to winning with the LA Lakers. Adou Thiero promised JJ Redick he would do whatever the Lakers needed to win a championship.

To see this mentality from the newcomers is a good sign for the Lakers, especially considering how demanding Luka Doncic is as a teammate.

Deandre Ayton expressed excitement over playing with Doncic, as he knows what the Slovenian superstar can do for them.

With the roster they have, the Lakers expect to compete in the West. In fact, Kendrick Perkins backs the Lakers to reach the NBA Finals next season.

Even with the tough odds in the Western Conference, the presence of Luka Doncic and LeBron James makes the Lakers strong favorites to reach the NBA Finals.
