The Houston Rockets agreed to acquire Kevin Durant from the Phoenix Suns on Sunday.

The blockbuster trade can be formally completed when the new league year begins on July 6.

Phoenix agreed to trade Durant to Houston for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the 10th pick in this year's draft and five second-round picks.

Durant, 36, can extend with the Rockets for up to two years, $122.1 million starting on July 6.

The San Antonio Spurs were Durant's No. 1 preferred landing spot. The NBA legend wanted to play with Victor Wembanyama and De'Aaron Fox, two of the top players in the league.

However, according to John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7, the Spurs never made an offer to the Suns for Durant.

The Spurs have the second overall pick in this year’s NBA Draft, the 2025 Rookie of the Year, Stephon Castle, and Wembanyama and Fox.

While San Antonio hasn't made the playoffs since 2019, the future of the franchise appears to be extremely bright with Castle, Wembanyama and Fox leading the way.

Durant may not have landed with the Spurs, but he's still happy with his trade.

According to Kelly Iko and Sam Amick of The Athletic, Durant is "incredibly excited" about getting to the Rockets, who had the second-best record in the West this season.

A 15-time All-Star, Durant appeared in 62 games in 2024-25. He averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists while shooting 52.7% from the field, 43.0% from beyond the arc and 83.9% from the free-throw line.

A future Hall of Famer, Durant won two rings and two Finals MVPs with the Golden State Warriors in 2017 and 2018.

It will be fascinating to see if KD can win a third title with Houston.
