New York Knicks ‘Finalizing’ Terms With Tom Thibodeau's Replacement to Become Head Coach

The New York Knicks entered July as the only team in the NBA still searching for a new head coach.

Of course, this came after New York made the shocking decision to fire head coach Tom Thibodeau after their playoff exit.

Thibodeau helped lead the Knicks to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2000 last season and he also led them to back-to-back 50-win seasons for the first time since the 1990s.

Despite this, the Knicks felt like it was time for change as they fired him after their season came to a close.

After almost a month of interviews with multiple candidates, the Knicks have finally found their replacement for Thibodeau.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Knicks are expected to hire two-time NBA Coach of the Year Mike Brown as the franchise’s next head coach.

Brown had emerged as the frontrunner for New York’s head coach opening and the Knicks are now expected to name him as their new head coach after Charania’s report.

Of course, Brown was fired in December of last season by the Sacramento Kings after their disappointing start to the season despite helping turn their franchise around during his three seasons with them.

During his time with the Kings, Brown led them to a 107-88 record and also helped them snap their long playoff drought during the 2022-23 season, resulting in him winning his second Coach of the Year award.

Brown’s first Coach of the Year award came during the 2008-09 season with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Now Brown inherits a stacked Knicks’ roster led by their core of Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, OG Anunoby and Mikal Bridges.

Due to this, and being in New York, there is a ton of pressure on Brown entering next season, especially in the weakened Eastern Conference, as many expect the Knicks to be one of the favorites to come out of the East next season.
